Republican vows to block Trump's $1.8B 'anti-weaponization fund'

A Republican Congressman is taking a stand against a substantial taxpayer-funded payout intended for Donald Trump’s prosecuted MAGA allies. In a bold move, Pennsylvania Representative Brian Fitzpatrick announced his intent to block the $1.8 billion fund, labeling it as “bad news.” Fitzpatrick made his stance clear during a discussion with reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, just hours after a public incident involving Trump and Fitzpatrick’s fiancée, journalist Jacqui Heinrich.

Heinrich, who is a reporter for Fox News, was publicly dismissed by Trump on the tarmac when she attempted to ask about Israel. Instead of answering, Trump deflected by criticizing her fiancé, Fitzpatrick, suggesting he was disloyal for frequently voting against him. “Her husband votes against me all the time. Can you imagine?” Trump remarked to the gathered press at Joint Base Andrews, hinting at potential political repercussions similar to those faced by Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie.

The controversy surrounding this fund arises from a settlement the IRS reached on Monday with Trump, his sons Don Jr. and Eric, and the Trump Organization. The settlement resolved a $10 billion lawsuit over leaked tax records, leading to the creation of a $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization fund” for MAGA supporters facing legal challenges under the current administration. Additionally, the agreement grants Trump and his sons immunity from any unresolved tax audits. Fitzpatrick, aged 52, expressed his concerns to a Meidas Touch reporter, mentioning plans to explore legislative options and communicate with the Attorney General.

Heinrich, an award-winning journalist, is known for tough coverage of the Trump administration that has repeatedly drawn the President’s ire. Trump branded her ‘absolutely terrible’ on Truth Social last year and said she ‘should be working for CNN, not Fox’ after she questioned his display of Tesla vehicles at the White House . The White House was contacted for comment.
