Starting January 1, commuters will face an additional 40 cents daily as the Myki full fare daily cap rises to $11.40, while concession fares will be set at $5.70.

A single journey will now cost $5.70, with concession fares increasing to $3.60.

Weekend travelers will also see an increase, with full daily fares rising to $8, and concessions to $4.

For a typical commuter using their Myki card five days a week, this adjustment translates to an extra $104 annually.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) announced the fare increase on Friday, noting that these adjustments help fund the operation of the state’s train, tram, and bus services.

PTV clarified that fares undergo an annual review and are adjusted accordingly to maintain fairness across Victoria.

Each Saturday and Sunday from first service until last, transport gates will remain open and commuters won’t need to tap their myki card on or off.

Myki fares have been incrementally rising over the past few years.
