Trump pardons Rudy Giuliani, others involved in efforts to overturn 2020 election
US President Donald Trump has pardoned his former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his former chief of staff Mark Meadows and others accused of backing the Republican’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, a Justice Department official says.

Ed Martin, who serves as the government’s pardon attorney, took to social media to announce a signed proclamation granting a “full, complete, and unconditional” pardon. This pardon includes the names of conservative lawyers Sidney Powell and John Eastman. Powell is known for spreading unfounded conspiracy theories about the election being stolen, while Eastman devised a controversial plan aimed at maintaining Trump’s hold on power.

Interestingly, the proclamation, which was shared online late Sunday (Monday night AEDT), clearly states that the pardon does not extend to Trump himself.

Rudy Giuliani, once the mayor of New York City, emerged as a key figure backing Trump’s unverified allegations of widespread voter fraud following the 2020 election. This advocacy has led to his disbarment in Washington, DC, and New York, following his support of Trump’s false election claims. Additionally, Giuliani lost a hefty $148 million defamation lawsuit filed by two former Georgia election workers, whose lives were drastically affected by the conspiracy theories he endorsed.

John Eastman, who previously headed the Chapman University Law School in Southern California, acted as a close advisor to Trump during the post-election period in 2020. He penned a memo outlining how Vice President Mike Pence could potentially halt the electoral vote count during the joint session of Congress on January 6 in an effort to keep Trump in office.

Eastman, a former dean of Chapman University Law School in Southern California, was a close adviser to Trump in the wake of the 2020 election and wrote a memo laying out steps Vice President Mike Pence could take to stop the counting of electoral votes while presiding over Congress’ joint session on January 6 to keep Trump in office.
