Exclusive: A child sex offender is scheduled to be released from a South Australian prison next week due to a legal gap that prevents authorities from holding him before his sentencing for another crime.
The individual, whose identity is protected by law, is set to leave Mount Gambier prison on Monday, despite objections from multiple officials, as his five-year sentence for the assault of a young girl concludes.
The following day, he is expected to appear in a Canberra court for sentencing related to the interstate assault of Mike Worsman, who endured violent and repeated abuse at the age of 12 in the 1990s.
In theory, authorities have a three-day window to prevent his release, but credible sources informed 9News that this is unlikely.
It’s hoped the offender will front up in a Canberra courthouse on Tuesday, although it’s unlikely he even has the time to get there.
A warrant will be issued for his arrest if he does not appear in court.
