A childcare worker has been granted release after facing allegations of slapping two children at a Sydney daycare facility.

During a court session today, details emerged about the incident, which reportedly took place while the children were attempting to sleep.

The alleged event occurred on Friday at Panania Montessori Academy, where Jayendra Shahi is accused of striking the children across their faces.

Following a night in custody, Shahi has been released on bail, facing two charges of common assault.

The courtroom was informed that CCTV footage captured the incident.

Nine News has learned that a parent brought the alleged assaults to the attention of authorities.

Montessori Academy said: “Immediate action was taken, including standing down the educator and reporting the matter to the police and regulatory authority. We have since terminated the educator’s employment.”

The judge said Shahi faced very serious allegations and the primary bail concern was the safety of the victims.

The 24-year-old was banned from entering any childcare centre.

The Nepalese national, who was hoping to get permanent residency, was also forced to surrender his passport.
