The parents of a Sydney teenager who tragically lost his life in a park stabbing on Monday have shared a heartfelt tribute to their “loyal young man.”

On that fateful day, 17-year-old Lucas Cornu suffered a fatal stab wound to the leg at Bruce Purser Reserve, located on Caballo Street at the intersection of Rouse Hill and Beaumont Hills.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, Lucas succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Today, Lucas’s parents released a statement to honor the memory of their son.

“There are no words to express the pain our family is going through. No parent should ever have to bury their child,” they expressed.

“We want Lucas to be remembered as a social, fun, loving, sporty, and loyal young man. His radiant smile could light up any room. Sports were a significant part of his life, especially soccer and tennis. We are so grateful he had the opportunity to celebrate a championship victory this year with his teammates from the Quakers Hill Tigers soccer club.”

The vigil on 26 November showed us just how much Lucas was loved and how many lives he touched. Thank you to everyone young and parents who came to pay their respects and honour his memory.

The response from the community, friends, and colleagues has been overwhelming. Your support, generosity, and compassion have carried us through these difficult days, and we are deeply grateful.

We would also like to acknowledge:

• Lucas’ friend, who was with him during the attack and made the hardest phone call of his young life. Such bravery deserves recognition.

• The ladies who rushed to Lucas’ aid without hesitation and stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

• The paramedics, who did everything possible to save Lucas’ life.

• The police force, who have supported our family from day one and continue working tirelessly to bring justice for Lucas.

Violence is never the answer. We hope that Lucas’ death will not be in vain and that young people will come together, support each other, and speak up.

This has understandably been a traumatic and emotional time for our family. While the court’s process is underway, our family requests privacy at this time and will not be conducting media interviews.

Forever in our hearts, our beautiful Lucas. Your light will continue to shine through the love and memories you’ve left behind.

Lucas’ legacy reminds us to support one another, speak up, and choose peace over violence.

Police said the 15-year-old boy presented himself to a police station with his parents.
