An employee of the National Disability Insurance Agency is facing charges in connection with an alleged $5 million fraud scheme involving the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Authorities have flagged approximately $5 million in claims as suspicious from a business that has been receiving NDIS funding since 2019. The business has reportedly claimed more than $28 million in total over this period.
In response to these allegations, the Australian Federal Police executed search warrants at various locations in the Darwin region yesterday. These included a residence in Lee Point, as well as business premises in Durack and Yarrawonga.
During the raids, officers confiscated documents and electronic equipment such as laptops, which are now undergoing further scrutiny.
The accused, a 47-year-old man, has been formally charged with several offenses, including fraud and the abuse of public office.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to delve into the details of the case.
