A man has been charged with murder after allegedly running over his neighbour on her own driveway in Melbourne’s north.

An altercation reportedly broke out last night involving two individuals, which authorities believe resulted in the tragic death of 53-year-old grandmother Melonie McKay outside her Reservoir residence.

Police arrived at the Seston Street location just before 8pm, but McKay died at the scene.

Her family is grappling with the devastating news.

“I’m at a loss for words and unsure of my emotions,” her son Trent Ottrey shared with 9News.

“I shared a tearful moment with my younger sister,” he added.

According to McKay’s sister, the sorrow is almost unbearable.

“The mix of grief, anger, and confusion we’re experiencing is truly overpowering,” she expressed in a statement.

“Trying to understand why something like this happened, and how someone we lived near could commit such an act, only adds to the pain.”

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count of murder.

Police admit the investigation could take up to six weeks.

He appeared in court today, and claimed he had been in custody before and has two children.

It is believed one of the children was in the car when it allegedly struck McKay.

Investigations at the scene continue, with police saying they will need around six weeks to go through all of the evidence, as well as reconstructing the scene of the crash.
