Major emergency after helicopter crashes into beach

Three people have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a helicopter crashed into the water on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

According to the police, there were three individuals present in the helicopter when it plunged into the water roughly 30 meters away from the rocks at Point Lonsdale, shortly after 10am.

All three people managed to make it to shore, where they were located by a passerby who called triple zero.

Wreckage from the helicopter can be seen in the water and emergency services are attending to patients on the beach. (Nine)

A male and female have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Another male has been taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

More than a dozen emergency service personnel are attending to at least three patients on the beach. (Nine)

The circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear at this time.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the crash with assistance from police.
