“I wanted to assist in subduing one of the alleged shooters or support anyone in need because many people were frightened,” he shared with SBS World News.
“I leaped onto the shooter and seized his arms. A police officer assisted me and instructed me not to release him,” he recounted.
“I didn’t feel like I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Instead, I felt I was exactly where I needed to be. I’m grateful I could contribute,” he expressed.
Currently, Al-Ahmed is recuperating in a Sydney hospital, where he has received visits and gratitude from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns.
“My intention was simply to join in and provide help if it was required,” he stated.
“Ultimately, we’re all human beings. No one should lose their lives, especially while celebrating something like a Christmas lunch,” he concluded.
‘Don’t fight hate with hate’
“At the end of the day, we’re all human beings. Nobody should have to lose their lives, especially out celebrating something like we’re out celebrating Christmas lunch.”
