A proposed ceasefire by US President Donald Trump faces uncertainty as Israel reports that Iran has fired missiles into its territory less than three hours after the truce began.
Israel has vowed to retaliate.
On Tuesday morning, which was evening AEST, explosions and sirens echoed across northern Israel. This occurred after both Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire to halt the 12-day conflict affecting the Middle East.
At least nine killed in Israeli strikes in northern Iran
According to Iranian state media, at least nine individuals lost their lives and many were injured following Israeli airstrikes on residential buildings in northwest Iran early Tuesday, as reported by a local official.
The attack in Gilan province wounded 33 people and destroyed four residential units, the deputy governor of Gilan said, according to state-affiliated media Tasnim news agency.
Of those killed and wounded, 16 were women and children, the governor said.
Surrounding houses were also damaged in the explosion, the governor said.
