The body of a tenth deceased hostage returned to Israel from Gaza under the recent ceasefire deal has been identified as the truce entered a second week despite facing a number of tests and with the next steps unresolved.

The community of Kibbutz Nir Oz has announced the return of Eliyahu (Churchill) Margalit, who will be laid to rest in his beloved village. Margalit, whose life was tragically cut short at 75 during the Hamas-led assault on Israel on October 7 two years ago, has been officially identified by both the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

Amidst ongoing regional tensions, pivotal discussions regarding the ceasefire agreement have been underway in Egypt. Sources from Israel and the region informed CNN that these talks are centered around the demilitarization of Gaza, its governance, and the establishment of an international force to ensure security following the prolonged conflict.

A significant proposal from the Trump administration outlines a 20-point strategy aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict. This plan suggests that the territory be managed by a non-political group of Palestinian technocrats, overseen by a ‘Board of Peace’ led by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

To bolster security, the plan includes the formation of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) composed of troops from various nations, tasked with maintaining order in the region.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, there remains uncertainty regarding the willingness of Hamas to disarm and relinquish control. The group has sent its chief negotiator to Cairo to participate in talks about the proposed Palestinian committee set to administer Gaza, yet their commitment to a peaceful transfer of power is still unclear.

But even though Hamas dispatched its chief negotiator to Cairo for discussions over the Palestinian committee set to govern Gaza, the militant group remains vague over its disarmament and transfer of power.

And countries set to join the International Stabilisation Force are still negotiating its structure, with some asking for a mandate from the UN Security Council before joining.
