Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quietly underwent treatment for prostate cancer, he said Friday as he publicised the results of his annual medical examination.
Netanyahu, 76, said he delayed the release of his annual medical report – which revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer for the first time – by two months so that it wouldn’t be used as propaganda by Iran.

In December 2024, Israel’s longest-serving leader underwent surgery to address an enlarged prostate, a procedure made public by the Prime Minister’s Office at that time.

Following his surgery, a recent medical examination revealed a new concern. In a statement shared on social media, Netanyahu disclosed that doctors had identified a malignant tumour in his prostate, measuring less than a centimeter in size.

Accompanying this announcement, the Prime Minister’s Office released two letters from his medical team. One of the letters emphasized that the tumour was detected early, describing it as a very small lesion with no signs of metastasis, as confirmed by extensive testing.

While the exact timing of the last check-up was not specified, a source with knowledge of the situation informed CNN that the cancer diagnosis occurred several months ago.

According to this insider, Netanyahu commenced radiation therapy approximately two and a half months ago and has recently completed the treatment.

Netanyahu began undergoing radiation therapy about two and a half months ago, according to the source, and had recently completed the treatment.

Netanyahu says he made the decision to undergo targeted radiation therapy and “the spot disappeared completely”.

“Thank God, I am healthy,” Netanyahu said on social media.

“I had a minor medical issue with my prostate that was completely treated.”
