Peace talks in jeopardy over Lebanon violence

As Iran gears up for peace discussions, its top negotiator has expressed a significant lack of trust in the United States.

Speaking to the press, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf highlighted past US actions against Iran during earlier negotiations as a cause for concern.

“In less than a year, we faced attacks mid-negotiation twice, despite Iran’s sincere efforts to engage. These actions included numerous violations of international law,” he stated.

“While we approach with goodwill, trust is another matter entirely,” he added.

However, two critical prerequisites set by Iran for these discussions are currently at risk.

“There are two key agreements that still need fulfillment: implementing a ceasefire in Lebanon and unfreezing Iran’s assets before talks can begin,” he noted.

“These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin.”

Bloodshed continues in Lebanon, where Hezbollah and Israel are exchanging fire today.

Hezbollah has claimed to have conducted a drone strike on Israeli soldiers in Lebanon.

Lebanon has said 1900 people have been killed by Israeli strikes since the war began in February.

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun said his government and Israel had agreed to peace talks starting on Tuesday.
