A man has been charged following the alleged theft of a $500,000 McLaren vehicle at Crown Melbourne.

The vehicle left the casino at 3am yesterday morning, after it was allegedly checked out of Crown Melbourne valet by a man.

“I gave them the valet ticket and they said, no you took it at 3am,” the vehicle’s driver Johnny Nahlous said.

“(They said) ‘you’re not the owner of the car’.”

Police tracked the vehicle to West Footscray this afternoon, arresting a 43-year-old man.

The car belongs to Sydney-based Honeymoon Car Hire and they have called in the lawyers.

“There’s damage to the interior, the engine, and we have pictures of that as well,” Honeymoon Car Hire Georgia Hunter said.

“We will be seeking legal action in due course with Crown.”

Police said the 43-year-old Lismore man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and has been bailed to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on 17 October.

The investigation is still ongoing.

A Crown spokesperson said they were aware of the incident and are assisting police with their investigation.

“We take security matters extremely seriously and we have commenced an internal investigation as a matter of priority,” they said.
