A man faces charges after allegedly leaving another man gravely injured on a suburban road, then turning on the woman who sought help.

The 18-year-old man was found unconscious with serious head injuries by a walker on Christine Avenue in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast around 10.40pm yesterday.

Authorities report that the 34-year-old suspect lingered nearby.

When the 27-year-old woman contacted emergency services, he allegedly assaulted her too.

During his arrest, he reportedly spat at the officers.

The 18-year-old victim was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition, while the woman received treatment for minor injuries.

The man, hailing from Moggill in Brisbane, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, and common assault.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates’ Court today.

Police are appealing for information.
