London’s Metropolitan Police says it is “actively looking into” media reports Prince Andrew asked his taxpayer-funded bodyguard for personal information about his accuser Virginia Giuffre.

Following revelations by the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Telegraph, the police have announced an investigation into the allegations.

“We are aware of the media coverage and are currently examining the claims presented,” a spokesperson stated this morning (tonight AEDT).

According to the Mail, an email allegedly from Andrew to Queen Elizabeth’s deputy press secretary indicated he had provided his Metropolitan Police personal protection officer with Virginia Giuffre’s birth date and social security number for investigation purposes.

There is no implication that the protection officer acted on this request.

While Andrew has not publicly addressed these new claims, he has consistently denied the accusations against him.

In 2022, he reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre, following her civil lawsuit in New York.

While he didn’t admit wrongdoing, Andrew did acknowledge Giuffre’s suffering as a victim of sex trafficking.

The sidelining came after emails emerged last week showing Andrew remained in contact with Epstein longer than he previously admitted.
