On Wednesday, North Korea announced it had launched sea-to-surface cruise missiles into its western waters, marking another demonstration of its advancing military prowess.

This development coincides with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to South Korea for a regional summit.

The Korean Central News Agency, North Korea’s state media, hailed Tuesday’s missile test as a success. They asserted that these weapons would enhance the operational range of the nation’s nuclear-armed forces.

South Korea’s military has yet to confirm whether they detected the missile tests.

North Korea’s announcement came just hours before a planned summit between President Trump and South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung in Gyeongju, the host city for this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings.
