New games and hardware unveiled by PlayStation

PlayStation has held its first State of Play event since February, showcasing what Sony Interactive Entertainment and various third-party partners have in store.

The showcase shared all things to come for the PlayStation 5, including new games and a surprise new hardware announcement.

Here’s the State of Play highlights:

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls 

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. (PlayStaion)

Arc System Works, known for the beloved Guilty Gear series, is developing a new tag-team fighting game featuring Marvel’s heroes and villains. Players can choose from characters such as Captain America, Spider-Man, and Dr Doom. Titled MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, this game will be available on PlayStation 5 in 2026.

007 First Light. (IOI Interactive)

IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, is working on a third-person action-adventure game that explores a reimagined backstory for James Bond, following his journey as a 00-agent in training. 007 First Light is anticipated to launch next year. 

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced the latest installment in their dark action RPG series Nioh. There’s a free limited-time demo on the PS store now.

Then there there’s the surprise hardware announcement — a modern arcade fighting controller:

‘Project Defiant’ Wireless Fight Stick

PlayStation unveiled its first wireless fight stick, designed for PS5 and PC, featuring ultra-low latency PlayStation Link technology. There’s no pricing available or a release date, but it’s expected in 2026.

A new teaser trailer for the game was shown and we were given news of more details to come. Next month PlayStation is hosting a deep dive in Ghost of Yōtei, with an extended look at gameplay. This hotly anticipated title from Sucker Punch is scheduled to release on October 2.

Astro Bot is getting 5 new challenge levels. (PlayStation)

Five new challenge levels are coming to Astro Bot, bringing the total number of levels to more than 90! More Astro Bot? Yes please. An updated Limited Edition DualSense controller will also be released later this year with a “twist”.

Baby Steps. (Devolver Digital)

We finally have a release date for Baby Steps, a whacky and wild walking simulator from Devolver Digital. Look out for this one when it steps onto consoles and PC on September 8.

  • Tides of Tomorrow – coming to PS5 on February 24, 2026.
  • Sea of Remnants – release date TBC
  • Sword of the Sea – coming on August 19 (day one on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue)
  • FBC: Firebreak – coming on June 17 (day one on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue)

PlayStation Plus also announced new additions:

Deus Ex (PS2 version) joins the Game Catalogue on June 17, while Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 arrive in the Classics range on July 15.

The original PlayStation versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are also coming later this year.
