The final question of Albanese’s press conference ended on quite an emotional note.

When asked about his previous remarks regarding Labor needing at least two terms to implement significant reforms, the prime minister addressed whether a majority win the following night would justify pursuing more bold policies.

Initially listing several government initiatives, he then shifted to an impassioned critique of the Coalition’s platform, criticizing the nuclear power proposal, defense spending pledges, and planned budget reductions.

“What you’re seeing is utter nonsense, treating Australians with disregard. Sitting idly by for three years without any substantial policy alternatives, and presenting budget responses without proper cost evaluations,” said an unusually impassioned Albanese.

“Doing a defence policy with no detail, $21 billion – did you notice yesterday that $9 billion of that is cut is outside the forward estimates?

“Give us $21 billion, cut health and education, but we won’t tell you what it’s for and then we’ll push it off into the fifth year (of budget forecasts).

“I mean, these people are just not ready. They are just not ready for government.

“Australia deserves better and I’ll give them better.”
