Man shot in chest while riding dirt bike in Decatur; police seeking tips on suspects

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A man, aged 25, was shot in the chest while riding a dirt bike on Tuesday evening in Decatur. The police are now seeking information on the suspects who fled the scene.

Sgt. Steve Hagemeyer stated that the Decatur Police Department responded to a report of gunfire at 5:54 p.m. on August 6 in the 900 block of W Decatur St. Officers arrived to find a 25-year-old man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Hagemeyer explained that the victim was on a dirt bike when three white males in an old white pickup truck approached, shot him in the chest with a handgun for reasons unknown, and then fled. It remains uncertain which of the three individuals in the truck fired the handgun, Hagemeyer mentioned.

The victim was initially believed to have life-threatening injuries, but he is currently stable at a local hospital. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
