A 41-year-old man from Tewantin is reported to have been the cause of a multi-car collision involving six vehicles. The incident occurred when he lost control of his Porsche Macan, colliding with a Nissan Micra on the Bruce Highway’s southbound lanes, located near Aussie World at Palmview, just after noon on Monday.
The young woman from Upper Mount Gravatt was a passenger in the Nissan. She died from her injuries.
The man then allegedly approached a grey Mazda 3 nearby that was being driven by a 16-year-old learner driver, under instruction from her parents.
The girl and her parents fled on foot and were not physically injured.
“It’s hard to fathom that having a firearm pointed at you and being asked to exit your vehicle wouldn’t have some effect, though, from what I’ve learned, the gun was not fired,” stated Overland.
The man was arrested at 12.48pm near Steve Irwin Way and remains in hospital under police guard.
Police found the firearm in the Mazda.
The 41-year-old Tewantin man has been charged with a slew of driving, weapons and drugs offences.
The man faces several charges, including: two counts of armed robbery, two counts of drug possession, two counts of breaking into a vehicle to commit a serious offense, as well as dangerous driving resulting in death, actions intended to cause serious injury, reckless driving under the influence, carrying a weapon with intent to create fear, illegal firearm possession during a crime, owning stolen goods, need for authorization to possess explosives, failing to remain at a crash scene, and driving without a valid license.
The matter will be mentioned in court today.
