The strategic waterway has reopened, with former President Trump declaring a diplomatic victory, while Israel and Lebanon have cautiously entered a ceasefire agreement.
However, a critical sticking point remains that could threaten to reignite tensions.
The United States is determined to acquire Iran’s uranium, with Trump revealing in a media interview that an “agreement” is anticipated.
Conversely, Iran insists that its enriched uranium reserves are non-negotiable and will remain intact.
During his conversation with CBS, Trump clarified that there are no intentions to deploy U.S. troops to obtain these reserves.
“We’ll collaborate with Iran to secure it, and then we’ll have it,” he remarked.
“We’ll be getting it together because by that time, we’ll have an agreement and there’s no need for fighting when there’s an agreement. Nice right? That’s better.
“We would have done it the other way if we had to.”
Trump said the two sides would meet this weekend.
But Iran in a counter said there was no agreement in place and no chance of one.
“Iran’s enriched uranium is not going to be transferred anywhere; transferring uranium to the United States has not been an option,” Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told state news outlet IRIB.
“Iran’s enriched uranium is sacred to us like the soil of Iran.”
