Trevor Gillmeister, a celebrated former rugby player known for his contributions to the State of Origin and Brisbane Broncos, is currently entangled in legal troubles after allegedly attacking a police officer near a Brisbane pub.

The incident reportedly unfolded inside the Stock Exchange Hotel in Brisbane’s central business district on Friday night. A passerby informed the police about the disturbance occurring within the venue.

According to allegations, Gillmeister attempted to strike a staff member inside the establishment, leading to his removal from the premises.

When officers attempted to detain the 61-year-old for causing a public disturbance, he allegedly pushed one of the officers, resulting in a physical confrontation.

It is reported by 9News that the officer’s vest was nearly torn off during the struggle.

Following the altercation, Gillmeister was apprehended and transported to the Brisbane Watchhouse. He now faces charges of assaulting a police officer, obstructing law enforcement, and causing a public disturbance.

He will face court in early December. 

Reached for comment on Monday evening, Gillmeister declined to comment.
