According to Weatherzone, inland regions are bracing for potentially extreme temperatures, with forecasts suggesting highs could soar to 47 degrees in certain areas.
Weatherzone meteorologist Yoska Hernandez explained that this intense heatwave is a result of a sluggish weather system currently hovering over southern Australia.
“The overall atmospheric circulation is expected to remain largely unchanged, which means that hot air will continue to permeate the southeastern parts of the nation, leading to prolonged extreme heat,” stated Hernandez.
Hernandez further noted that a tropical system is playing a significant role by affecting large-scale atmospheric patterns. This system is supporting upper-level ridging, which is reinforcing the weather pattern responsible for the searing heat entrenched across southeastern Australia.
