Authorities in Arizona remain hopeful in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US television anchor Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing for several days. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that while they have yet to identify any suspects, they believe she is “still out there” and are determined to bring her home safely.

Recent DNA testing confirmed that blood found on Nancy Guthrie’s porch belongs to her, leading investigators to suspect she was taken from her Tucson residence against her will over the past weekend.

“At this moment, our belief is that Nancy is still out there, and we are committed to bringing her back,” Sheriff Nanos announced at a press conference on Thursday, five days following her disappearance.

Nation prays for Nancy Guthrie

In a show of support, US President Donald Trump has instructed federal agencies to provide assistance in the search efforts. The White House confirmed that President Trump had a conversation with Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday to discuss the situation.

In Tucson, community members gathered for a vigil at a local church, lighting candles and offering prayers for Nancy’s safe return.

Jeremy Thacker, a former colleague of Savannah Guthrie at an Arizona news station, expressed his emotional turmoil, recalling shared experiences of losing their fathers at a young age. Thacker, whose sister was kidnapped during his childhood, was visibly moved as he spoke of the collective heartbreak and helplessness felt by those close to Nancy.

Thacker said he knew Nancy Guthrie to be sharp, grounded and earnest.

“We’re all holding our breath,” Thacker said.
