A luxury store has been ram-raided in Sydney’s CBD, with thousands of dollars’ worth of designer handbags snatched from the shop.

An SUV drove through the window of the Fendi store at the intersection of Elizabeth and Market Streets at 3.45am.

The crew of robbers stole every bag in their sight, leaving the usually stocked shelves empty.

NSW Police Chief Inspector Gary Coffey said CCTV showed three people getting out of the SUV and entering the store.

The crew left the scene in a stolen white BMW wagon.

Police allege there was also a second getaway car, a grey Audi S3.

“They were stealing the handbags that are on display and they are putting them into those two vehicles that are still outstanding,” Coffey said.

“Three people entered the store, you’d expect at least one other in each of those vehicles.”

Coffey said the store is working to assess the total cost of the goods stolen.

“The value of each item is quite considerable; the overall cost would be in the tens of thousands of dollars.”

The SUV, which is abandoned at the scene, was reported stolen from a home in Waterloo on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the two getaway cars were taken from a residence in Kingsford overnight, NSW Police confirmed.

Coffey said the residents of the home woke up to police at their door, telling them their cars had been stolen.

Coffey advised those who make purchases on third-party seller websites such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace to exercise caution when purchasing Fendi bags online in the upcoming days.

“If people do see luxury handbags for sale at prices that are below normal market value, those bags may be stolen,” Coffey said.

“They would be trying to get rid of them as quickly as possible … if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

“We would encourage those potential buyers not to purchase the items but rather to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Anyone who saw the two outstanding cars is urged to contact police.
