The police have disclosed that they received a tip-off about a “potentially planned violent act” but have clarified that there is no link to the ongoing investigation into the Bondi terrorism incident.
In a dramatic scene, video footage captured officers equipped with long-range firearms, clad in camouflage gear, body armor, and helmets, as they detained, searched, and handcuffed the suspects.
The suspects’ vehicle was reportedly halted and forcibly stopped by authorities.
One of the individuals arrested was spotted on a stretcher, showing visible injuries with a bloodied face and head bandaged.
According to a statement released by the NSW Police this evening, “Tactical Operations police acted on received intelligence indicating that a violent act might have been in the planning stages.”
The police confirmed that they have intercepted two vehicles as part of their ongoing investigation.
“As investigations continue, seven men are assisting police with their inquiries.
“At this point in time, police have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack.”
The dramatic scene unfolded on the corner of George and Campbell streets in Liverpool, just across the road from a busy Westfield shopping centre.
Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
