A 39-year-old man is set to appear in court after allegedly being caught driving with a blood alcohol level almost six times over the legal limit in northern Adelaide.
The incident unfolded when the man reportedly crashed his car into a tree on Manuel Avenue in Blair Athol around 9 p.m. last night. Both police and paramedics were called to the scene.
According to witnesses, the driver reversed his Toyota sedan after the collision and attempted to flee, but police quickly intercepted him just a short distance away.
No injuries were reported, either to the driver or any nearby pedestrians.
Upon conducting a blood alcohol test, officers found that the man from Kilburn had an alarming reading of 0.294, which is nearly six times the legal limit.
He now faces charges including drink driving, driving under the influence, driving while disqualified, and careless driving.
He was subsequently reported for drink driving, driving under the influence, driving while disqualified and driving without care.
The man has lost his licence for a year and will appear in court at a later date.
His car was towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days.
