Hannah Thomas was badly injured following an anti-Israel protest in Sydney's west.

A police officer already facing legal proceedings for allegedly assaulting former Greens candidate Hannah Thomas has now been confronted with an additional charge.

Thomas, who endured partial vision loss and required multiple surgeries after sustaining facial injuries during her arrest at a protest outside SEC Plating in Belmore, Sydney’s southwest, in June, is at the center of this case.

About a month ago, a 33-year-old senior constable from a specialist unit in the South West Metropolitan Region was charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Today, he received an additional charge for recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and has been summoned to appear at Bankstown Local Court on November 18.

The officer’s workplace management is currently under review as part of the ongoing proceedings. Meanwhile, the NSW Police Professional Standards Command continues to investigate the incident.

A critical incident investigation, with oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, is also ongoing.

Thomas, who challenged Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his seat of Grayndler at the federal election this year, was one of five people arrested and charged after police tried to move on protesters.

Police, however, dropped their charges against her in court last month.

She has launched legal action against NSW Police, alleging assault and battery, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and collateral abuse of process.
