In a troubling incident from Sydney’s north-west, a childcare worker has been accused of slapping a three-year-old child across the face. This alleged assault occurred at a childcare center in Dundas, prompting swift actions from law enforcement.

The Ryde Police Area Command launched an investigation earlier this week following the allegations against the 43-year-old woman. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday, raising concerns about the safety protocols at the facility.

Authorities moved quickly, apprehending the suspect at a residence on Dorahy Street in Dundas. She was then transported to Gladesville Police Station, where she faced charges, including assaulting a school student on school premises and common assault.

After being taken into custody, the accused childcare worker was granted conditional bail. She is set to appear in Burwood Local Court on December 8, where the case will continue to unfold.

This incident sheds light on broader issues within the early childhood education sector in Australia, which has been under national scrutiny for its failure to consistently ensure the safety and well-being of children in its care.

The childcare worker was granted conditional bail and will face the Burwood Local Court on December 8.

The early childhood education sector has faced national scrutiny over failures to keep children safe and meet standards.

It prompted the NSW government to introduce nation-leading child safety reforms, which passed parliament a little over a week ago, which include a 900 per cent increase to maximum penalties for dodgy providers and compulsory child protection training.

“Families deserve to know their children are safe, respected, and nurtured when they attend childcare, preschool, or outside school care,” Acting Education and Early Learning Minister Courtney Houssos said at the time.
