A manhunt for a convicted gang rapist who reportedly escaped from immigration detention has concluded.
The fugitive enjoyed 100 hours of freedom before being apprehended approximately 40 minutes away from his escape point in Bankstown.
After spending nine years confined at Villawood Detention Centre, he allegedly made his escape from Bankstown Hospital on Wednesday morning, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
The 30-year-old was previously incarcerated for his involvement in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Doonside back in 2014.
He was in the process of awaiting deportation.
Police successfully captured the individual and transported him to Blacktown police station, where he was formally charged with an outstanding warrant.
He was refused bail to appear in Blacktown Local Court tomorrow.
Investigations are continuing.
