A Sydney community is calling for the end of a local soccer club because of continued brawls and abuse.
Today the Banksia Tigers didn’t want to answer any questions and when 9News arrived, they called the police.
The soccer match hadn’t even finished between the Banksia Tigers and Scots FC Lions.
Authorities verified that a scuffle erupted when onlookers stormed the field during the game and assaulted rival players at Gardiner Park in Banksia yesterday afternoon.
A 20-year-old was assaulted and the match was abandoned.
Locals claim this and a whole lot worse happens most weekends at the Banksia Tigers home ground.
“Police are a fairly regular occurrence, it’s the fourth time they’ve turned up this year alone,” resident Garnet Brown said.
“Parking issues, brawls, abuse to residents, so it’s far from ideal really.
“Families have relocated, and even couples have left the area because of anxiety. Each weekend, there is tension and unease among everyone.”
9News reached out to the Banksia Tigers for comment.
Authorities are investigating a video from last month that shows a Banksia Tigers player kicking a person in the head after a match in Peakhurst.
