Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass says he’s “hashed it out” with Jack Black after his controversial comment about an assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump forced the cancellation of their Australian tour and threatened the band’s future.
In a Rolling Stone interview that delved deep into the ferocious global backlash to his ill-judged quip onstage in Sydney last year, the guitarist joked the band’s return would be “bigger than Oasis” and labelled an Australian senator a “grandstander” over calls for them to be deported.

According to Gass, he was enjoying “the most amazing day ever” when the creators of the ARIA platinum hit Tribute performed their second concert at the ICC Sydney on his birthday last July.

“However, it seemed like he was trying to grab headlines too,” he remarked. “It felt somewhat exaggerated, but that probably says more about my dynamic with my agent.”

Last August, Black mentioned that the band would return “when the timing felt right,” while Gass expressed even greater excitement this week.

“We’re making a comeback — and it’ll be bigger than Oasis!” he exclaimed.
