Three patients still fighting for life after horror at Bondi

The school attended by young Bondi victim, Matilda, has shared a heartfelt tribute in her memory.

Instead of summarizing, we offer the tribute in its entirety below.

Interestingly, the tribute speaks of 10-year-old Matilda in the present tense.

The La Perouse School community is heartbroken over the passing of Matilda.

Matilda is our “wuri-wuri”, our little ray of sunshine. She embodies kindness, compassion, and care, lighting up everyone’s day with her radiant smile and infectious laughter.

Matilda possesses an extraordinary ability to bring happiness to those around her. Just last Friday, during Presentation Day, she was bursting with excitement, thinking her best friend would receive the Soroptimist International Literacy Award. To her surprise, her own name was called. We watched as she stood, surprised, and made her way to the stage, her smile brighter than ever. Though we were advised against cheering—since it wasn’t a concert—how could we not? We witnessed Matilda accomplish every goal she set and felt immense pride in her achievements.

Matilda is also known for her close bond with her sister, Summer. The girls adored each other and their relationship is something truly special. When Summer was asked who she wanted to be when she grew up, she would always reply “Matilda”.

Matilda is deeply respected and loved by both students and staff alike. We all have so many beautiful memories of her – from choreographing dances on the playground to K-Pop Demon Hunters, losing her glasses that were actually on her head, to facing her fears and bravely presenting her speech in front of her classmates, Matilda has a strength and joy for life that we will always cherish and remember.
