In a harrowing incident on Lieutenant Bowen Road in Bowen Mountain, a man and four children managed to escape a house fire that erupted around 2 a.m. Unfortunately, two individuals, thought to be children, were missing at the time of the emergency.
Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately two hours before they could bring it under control. According to authorities, some areas of the residence remained hot and smouldering, and much of the structure had collapsed, complicating rescue efforts.
Amid the chaos, further search operations carried out later in the morning led to a grim discovery. Police confirmed that two bodies were located inside the charred remains of the home.
Though the victims have yet to be formally identified, a crime scene has been established to investigate the tragic incident further.

NSW Ambulance confirmed four people had been taken to Nepean Hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns; these included a male teenager and two primary school aged boys.
Curtin praised the actions of responding crews to ensure the fierce fire didn’t spread to other homes, and he said all firefighters would be offered support.
“[It’s] very tough for our firefighters… all of those firefighters are impacted by the circumstances,” he said.
Investigations have commenced into how the fire started.
