U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has intensified his critique of how the media has portrayed the war, drawing parallels between journalists and the Pharisees, a Jewish sect in biblical times known for their frequent disputes with Jesus.
Hegseth, who is deeply religious, has repeatedly referenced his faith throughout the duration of the conflict.
During a briefing at the Pentagon, Hegseth expressed his frustration, stating, “I can’t help but notice the constant barrage of negativity and misleading narratives you continue to promote, ignoring the significant achievements and the commendable efforts of our troops.”
He further questioned the allegiances of some media members, saying, “It’s often puzzling to determine whose side you are truly on.”
Hegseth shared a personal reflection from a recent church sermon, where he was reminded of how the Pharisees sought to undermine Jesus, even when witnessing his miraculous acts.
He conveyed to the journalists, “As I sat in church, it struck me that our press behaves just like those Pharisees.”
He added he wasn’t referring to all reports, just “the legacy, Trump-hating press”.
