Pentagon polygraphed several dozen top military officials in hunt for leakers: reports

Dozens of senior military officials were reportedly administered polygraph exams last month as part of a broad investigation into who disclosed classified details about the nation’s munitions stockpile.

Roughly 50 high-ranking War Department officials underwent the lie-detector tests after news reports said the military’s supply of key weapons — including long-range missiles and Patriot interceptors — was being rapidly drawn down during the Iran war, according to the New York Times.

CBS News reported that none of the officials failed the polygraph questions designed to identify the source of the leak.

“The Department does not comment on internal personnel or investigative matters but takes all leaks of classified national security information extremely seriously and investigates accordingly,” chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

“Securing classified information is critical to ensuring the security of the United States and of our troops deployed around the world,” he added.

President Trump was reportedly “furious” over the disclosures, multiple sources told CBS News.

CBS also reported that only a very limited number of people had access to the classified assessment of the military’s munitions levels, raising concerns that someone in that circle could be operating as a foreign intelligence asset.

Trump has pushed back on claims that the US military is running short on firepower.

“The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the US as needed,” Trump declared on Truth Social last month.

“Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history,” he added.

The president also revealed that “the ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down“ and “long term jail sentences will be sought!”
