An upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary – “The Great American State Fair” – recently had several musical guests back out, partly over the event’s ties to President Donald Trump.

Former President Donald Trump is set to take center stage at an upcoming event.

On Saturday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to comment, “I hear some Artists are getting ‘the yips’ about performing,” hinting that he might step in himself as “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP,” to replace what he referred to as “highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists.'”

The organizing body for the June event in Washington’s National Mall, known as Freedom 250, confirmed Trump’s participation in an official statement, expressing their excitement about his role in kicking off the celebration on Wednesday, June 24.

Trump further expressed his opinion on social media, suggesting, “We should have a massive MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY for the 250th instead of overpriced singers, whose music is dull, and who constantly complain.”

While Freedom 250 is promoted as a nonpartisan group, it was founded last year by Trump and is under the leadership of a former State Department official from his first term.

Recently, several performers, including Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride, withdrew from the event.

Michaels and other artists have said that they were misled about the theme of the shows or were otherwise wary of being caught up in a political fight.

McBride, in a statement on Instagram, said she had been “presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading.”

Other artists plan to attend, including Flo Rida, Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli and Vanilla Ice.

The latter’s representative previously said that the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper was “proud to help celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary!”
