Alpine Shire Mayor Sarah Nicholas has said today is one of “deep sorrow and shock” for her community.

“At the outset, we offer our deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of the two police officers who were tragically killed in Porepunkah,” Nicholas expressed in a recorded video message.

“Our thoughts, love, and steadfast support are with you through this unbearably difficult time.” We deeply respect our police, valuing their service characterized by bravery, compassion, and commitment, and their loss is keenly felt throughout our area.

“We are deeply grateful for their service and commitment.”

The mayor urged locals to continue listening to police instructions.

“To our community. We know today has been unsettling and emotional,” she added.

“Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for continuing to follow police instructions to stay safe.”
