Have you ever wondered why the price of fast food items can be significantly more expensive on food delivery apps?

A TikTok video that went viral this week pointed out that the Chicken & Cheese from McDonald’s loose change menu is priced at $7 on Uber Eats, whereas the same item is available for $3.50 when purchased in-store.

Every item on the McDonald’s menu is significantly more expensive on Uber Eats.

The loose change menu features a Hamburger for $2, a Chicken & Cheese for $3.50, a Sausage McMuffin for $4, and a Ham and Cheese pocket for $2.50.

However, a tab that reads “Loose Change Menu” on the Uber Eats app offers a Sausage McMuffin for $7.

The Chicken ‘n’ Cheese is listed for $7.70 while the Ham & Cheese pocket is listed for $4.85.

A hamburger does not appear at all on Uber Eats, but a cheesburger on the regular menu costs $6.70.

It’s not just the Loose Change menu being sold for a drastically different price.

A McChicken on the MyMacca’s app is listed for $7.75, but it’s $9.55 on Uber Eats.

A three-pack of nuggets will set customers back $5.45 on the MyMacca’s app and $6.70 on Uber Eats.

A small frozen Coke, which usually costs $2, is listed for $5.70.

McDonald’s told 9news.com.au the Loose Change menu is not available through third-party delivery apps.

“McDonald’s has always been synonymous with value and affordability, and we are more committed than ever to providing great value every day,” the statement reads.

“Our Loose Change Menu is available at all of our restaurants across the country in dine-in, drive thru or through the MyMacca’s app.”

Uber Eats declined to provide an official comment, but 9news.com.au understands restaurants independently control the pricing of items on the app.

TikTok creator Mikaela Testa addressed the massive price hike of the Chicken ‘n’ Cheese in a video posted to her 2.8 million followers, saying McDonald’s had “lost their mind.”

“I just went to order myself some McDonald’s on Uber Eats, I went to get a Chicken ‘n’ Cheese, I thought it was gonna be $2 on the loose change menu,” Testa said in the video posted to TikTok.

“The Chicken ‘n’ Cheese was never more than $3, sometimes it was $1.50, sometimes it was $2… why the f— is it $7?”

“$7 for one Chicken ‘n’ Cheese… you’ve lost your mind, McDonald’s.”
