Dangerous conditions are expected to ease over the weekend.
Large swells across the East Coast have prompted warnings as wet weather continues to linger across parts of NSW and Queensland.

Today, the Sunshine Coast to Coolangatta and parts of northern New South Wales are bracing for damaging surf conditions. These are likely to result in coastal erosion, posing a significant threat to the shoreline. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution as a hazardous surf warning is in effect from the Sunshine Coast down to the southern regions of New South Wales.

People in areas such as Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Yamba, Evans Head, Ballina, and Mullumbimby are particularly advised to stay away from the water due to the severe surf conditions. This warning comes after a week marked by wet weather across Australia’s eastern regions. Fortunately, these challenging conditions are anticipated to subside towards the end of the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology said that in Queensland, affected areas could include Gold Coast, Maroochydore, Coolangatta, Noosa Heads, Moreton Island and Rainbow Beach.

While the rough surf is expected to diminish, forecasts indicate that damp weather will likely return next week, particularly affecting the southeastern parts of the country. Meanwhile, Queensland can look forward to clearer skies over the weekend, though rain may make a return later in the following week.

The dangerous conditions follow a wet week across Australia’s east and are expected to ease later into the weekend.

Despite rough conditions easing, damp conditions are expected to resume next week, particularly across the south-east.

Some parts of these states could also be in for thunderstorms, snow and blustery winds.

Conditions in Queensland are expected to clear up over the weekend, with rain becoming a possibility later next week.
