Starting tomorrow and continuing through the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology predicts potential severe storms, accompanied by heavy rain, in the northern and central regions of the state.

Numerous advisories have been released, including a flood watch for Barkly and Carpentaria coastal rivers.

According to the warning, “A trough over the Gregory and northern Barkly Districts is anticipated to develop into a monsoon trough by Wednesday and remain in place for much of the week.”

Flooding is expected to impact several roads, as many areas are already saturated from recent downpours.

Additionally, an initial flood watch has been announced for parts of north-west Queensland due to the same weather system.

The warning also noted, “Riverine flooding could occur starting Wednesday, potentially leading to road closures and isolating communities.”

The Bureau said flooding in the state’s south-west was not expected imminently but could be possible in the coming weeks as the extra water made its way downriver.
