Uganda has declared an Ebola outbreak after a case of the Sudan ebolavirus was confirmed in a man.

Tragically, at least 88 individuals, among them numerous healthcare workers, have lost their lives, and hundreds more have contracted a rare virus strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

Authorities are concerned about the potential for further spread, prompting the implementation of containment measures.

Is Ebola in Australia?

To date, Australia has not reported any confirmed cases of Ebola.

The government, however, considers it such a drastic potential health threat that it is able to invoke special health and safety powers should such a diagnosis be made.

This absence of cases extends to individuals attempting to enter the country.

Moran has emphasized that the risk to Australia remains “low,” but has advised travelers to exercise caution.

The World Health Organization has categorized the Ebola outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern.

WHO said the outbreak doesn’t meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency like COVID-19, and advised against the closure of international borders.
