An adventurous woman narrowly escaped grave danger after being repeatedly bitten by an eastern brown snake that had entangled itself in the heel loop of her shoe.

Cory Kerewaro, a snake expert from Reptile Relocation Sydney, shared with 9news.com.au that the woman was geocaching in a garden bed in Narellan, located in Sydney’s southwest, when she suddenly felt something on her leg on Saturday afternoon.

Instinctively, she leaped from the garden onto the road, shaking her leg frantically before realizing she had encountered a snake.

Kerewaro emphasized that while not all venomous snake bites result in envenomation, it is imperative to seek medical help immediately.

She made the right decision by remaining calm and calling for an ambulance, according to Kerewaro.

“Many believe a snake bite equals instant peril, but maintaining complete stillness can significantly influence the outcome,” he noted.

“Always go to hospital, even if you don’t think you’ve been bitten, the consequences can be fatal.”

He also encouraged people to carry a snake bite bandage when outdoors, and keep one in the glovebox of their car.

“It’s still unbelievable,” Kerewaro said.

“If someone had told me that it went through the loop of the shoe and I didn’t see the photos, I’d say bullshit.”
