Two men have been stabbed during a home invasion in Melbourne‘s north-west, with the offenders still on the run.

Shortly before midnight, a group of men forced their way into a residence on Sterling Close in Greenvale, wielding machetes and threatening the family inside.

The intruders spent approximately 15 minutes inside, attempting to make off with luxury cars and jewelry.

However, two men within the home bravely fought back, ultimately driving the would-be thieves to flee the scene.

The two men, aged 48 and 35, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

“I can only imagine how traumatic the situation must have been for everyone involved,” remarked Senior Constable Mitch Jones. “Whether they were physically assaulted or not, just being present during such an ordeal would be terrifying.”

He added, “The victims’ injuries resulted in quite a lot of blood, which was spread throughout the scene.”

The men who carried out the attack were wearing dark clothing and are believed to be in their early 20s.

They fled in a dark coloured SUV, police say.

Police are still investigating the nature of the attack and whether the two groups knew each other.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
