A serial animal cruelty offender, who a court found has been abusing animals for at least a decade, has had dozens more cats and horses removed from her care.
RSPCA Victoria inspectors seized 13 horses and 24 cats from a property in Ararat, in western Victoria, during a compliance check today after the woman was found guilty of dozens of animal cruelty charges in 2023.

For the fourth time, a woman has reportedly violated a court order that prohibits her from having animals, according to RSPCA Victoria. Over the past decade, the organization has seized more than 400 animals from her possession.

24 cats were taken from the woman, who is not allowed to be in the care of more than five felines.
Some of the horses and cats seized today showed signs of illness and were found in poor living conditions, RSPCA Victoria said.(RSPCA Victoria)

In July 2023, at the age of 66, she was convicted of 54 counts of animal cruelty. These charges included neglecting to provide adequate food and water, confining animals in conditions likely to cause distress, and neglecting necessary veterinary care.

As a result, she was given a lifetime ban on owning or managing horses and ponies.

However, after appealing the verdict, this restriction was modified to prevent her from owning or managing more than five horses for five years.

Additionally, she faces a lifelong prohibition from owning or managing more than five cats.

RSPCA Victoria also noted that she has been previously convicted of similar offenses both in Victoria and New South Wales.

Anyone with concerns about the welfare of animals is urged to make a report to RSPCA Victoria at rspcavic.org/cruelty-report/ or by calling 03 9224 2222.
