Investigators are currently exploring a potential link between the recent Brown University shooting and the murder of an MIT professor that occurred on Monday night.

According to law enforcement reports, a warrant has been issued for a suspect involved in the mass shooting that took place at Brown University on Saturday. This investigation is also considering a possible connection to the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor earlier this week.

On Thursday evening, a significant police presence, including officers from the Providence Police Department, was observed at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, as reported by the Providence Journal. Officers were seen with weapons drawn while some appeared more at ease during the operation.

The focus of the police activity, according to Boston 25, revolved around an abandoned vehicle matching the description of one that the suspect allegedly rented.

CBS News reported that the rented vehicle corresponds to the same make and model of a car spotted near the residence of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro.

Professor Nuno Loureiro, aged 47, was shot at his home on Monday night and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, as detailed by CrimeOnline. Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots at the time of the incident.

Saturday’s shooting at Brown, an Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island, took place in the school’s engineering building as students were studying for final exams, CrimeOnline reported. The masked shooter is believed to have entered that building via a residential street, also possibly explaining why there are no clear pictures of the suspect.

Two students were killed and nine others wounded.

Meanwhile, officials have asked residents to review their security and phone footage, as they believe the shooter may have been in the area a week before the deadly mass shooting.
