The increase in snowfall can be attributed to temperatures in the alpine region being lower than usual compared to past years.
This month, the average temperature in Perisher has been 4.4 degrees, only 0.7 degrees above the long-standing average.
This could result in snow falling at altitudes as low as 700 meters, potentially bringing the first snowfall of the year to some areas of the Blue Mountains near Sydney.
The snow period might extend until Wednesday as a low-pressure system is expected to pass over this region of the country.
Melbourne will also experience a chilly weekend, with highs reaching just 12 degrees tomorrow and 13 degrees on Sunday.
Sydney will be slightly warmer over the weekend, but the trend of wet weather is expected to persist into early next week.
Up to 40mm of rain is set to hit the Harbour city on Monday, with a further 20mm on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
