Upon returning from the NATO summit, U.S. President Donald Trump was greeted with a surprising video montage set to the tune of Usher’s song Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).
The official White House X account posted the video today set to the 2010 R&B single from the singer’s Raymond v Raymond album.
Trump was later asked about the remark.
During a press interaction, a reporter commented, “Mark Rutte, the NATO chief and someone you consider a friend, referred to you as ‘Daddy’ earlier. Do you see your NATO allies as something like children?”
Trump responded by saying, “No, he has a fondness for me. I believe he does. If he doesn’t, I’ll inform you. I’ll be back, and I’ll respond strongly if necessary. He indeed used the term affectionately, calling me ‘Daddy,’ as if to say I’m his daddy.”
Rutte later clarified his remarks likened Trump relationship with Europe to a father figure.
“What I said is that sometimes, in Europe, I hear sometimes countries saying, ‘Hey, Mark, will the US stay with us?’,” he said.
“And I said that sounds a little bit like a small child asking his daddy, ‘Hey, are you still staying with the family?'”
